France - our new home by Katie May from admin's blog

The decision to move to France was a long time brewing. We didn't just wake up one morning and decide to move. We were following a dream that had built inside us and that we had jointly shared, for many, many years.

So when we did finally pack up the car, having sent on all our worldly goods, we were so excited. Our dream was finally becoming a reality. We drove through France in late Spring, the warmth already in the air, trees just turning green, mists hovering in the early morning light. It took 6 days to drive to Provence, staying at various beautiful places en route. I will never forget the drive, nor the glorious countryside around us. In a way, it was like travelling through a dream.

The next few months were filled with house hunting and exploring, they were probably some of the happiest days we ever spent. Even now when I turn a corner in the car and the sun falls across the green fields or a meadow of poppies comes into view, I'm transported back to that first journey when we began to make France our home.

The key to this dream was 'we'. 'We' shared the journey, 'we' experienced it together. It was the sharing that made the dream come true. After a few years my husband died and 'we' became 'I'. More years passed before 'I' became 'we' again and I found someone new.

One of the greatest pleasures in life is sharing it with someone, and France is a wonderful place to share a dream.
